The Most Important Thing to John Dries

I was not raised in a Christian home. We attended churches mostly for weddings, free dinners, and funerals. I had a generally pleasant childhood other than a constant nag of insecurity and inadequacy that followed me into adulthood. Well into an outwardly successful career in the United States Navy, the failure of my second marraige drove me to a period of self-assessment that included re-connecting with my mother, who I had not seen almost 18 years since my parents divorce.
Seeing me off after visiting my mother, a friend gave me a Bible and simply asked me to read it. That was May of 1991. In August, after four months of random reading and learning how to talk to God, I asked Jesus Christ into my heart as Savior and Lord. No brilliant flashes of light - no movement of the earth, just a new and powerful beginning at age age 33.
My life is not perfect. I still have doubts and concerns and face challenges daily. There are financial concerns, disappointments, and disagreements. The difference is that I don't face these challenges alone. I have peace in knowing God is by my side and all of my actions are part of His master plan for my life and it CANNOT end badly. I receive support and encouragement from Christian brothers and sisters world-wide and have peace thanks to thier support and my daily conversations with God.
