Before I met Christ my life had no real direction and I was easily led away from God by temptations that promised to fill my longing for acceptance. Since I was brought up in a church environment, I knew the things I was doing were wrong, but without Christ in my life I had no power to resist. Consequently, my knowledge of right and wrong only served to condemn me and increase the load of guilt and shame I felt. By the time I was 18 years old I had amassed quite a list of sins and shortcomings.
At age 17 I transferred to a private Christian school and began attending a Baptist church. God used this to help me understand my need for Him. One night I became convicted about my bad choices and sought a fresh start with God. A classmate had told me to start my search in the Gospel of John. Soon I was kneeling beside my bed asking the Lord to forgive me and take control of my life. I shed tears of joy as the load of all that guilt was lifted away. Jesus had entered my heart to stay!
I immediately called my track coach and Bible teacher and told him what had happened, and that I wanted to be baptized. The next day as I stood in the baptism waters, I publicly declared my faith in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. Jesus totally changed me from the inside out and gave my life purpose and direction. He has blessed me so much in every area of my life. He gives me wisdom and strength to make wise decisions. He fills me with a genuine desire to serve Him by serving others.
